How To Complete The Coil in Destiny 2 (2024)

The Coil, much like Riven’s Lair, is one of the latest and most difficult Destiny 2 Season of the Wish seasonal activities. It’s essentially a longer, much more difficult version of Riven’s Lair, and it might throw you for a loop… or through a portal. The Coil is a bit tricky because, like the other main seasonal activity, there are three different areas you can traverse within the activity, both leading to an entirely different area, with a different boss, and every time you complete a round, the next one you start will be more difficult.

Destiny 2: The Coil Walkthrough

First, head into your Destinations tab and select the H.E.L.M.. From there, select The Coil from the available activities and head inside. You’ll head in with a Fireteam of three, and the recommended Power is 1,810.

Once you’re inside, collect your Wishing Glass Shards and purchase one of the Dragon’s Gifts offered by Riven. Head over to the left to the portals and jump through the one that activates. Things will get a bit tricky here, since there are three different portals you can go through, each resulting in a different mission. Below, you can find the rules for The Coil:

• Successfully complete four pathways inside Riven’s Lair
• Escalating Difficulty: Player’s Power levels are fixed. Starting at 0, each subsequent pathway increases all combatants’ Power level over the player’s by 5.
• Wishing Glass: Wishing Gladd in an in-activity currency. They drop from combatants, Glass Collectors, and pots. Wishing Glass comes in multiple rarities equating to their worth. Wishing Gladd is used to purchase Dragon’s Gifts from Riven.
• Dragon’s Gifts: A set of buffs are randomly chosen once per run. Between pathways, players can purchase buffs from Riven via the Wishing Gladd. Buffs are separated into three price point tiers.
• Rewards: After each pathway, players will return to Riven for their rewards. Subsequent pathways pay out better rewards. Breaking through score thresholds unlocks secret chests. Finishing The Coil with a platinum score rewards players with access to the lustrous and lucrative Chamber of Wishes.

Destiny 2: How To Clear Pathways in The Coil

To begin with, keep in mind that you only have so many Revives, and wasting them all can mean you might fail the activity. Once you head inside the first portal, you will find one of three worlds that you can explore, make your way through, and beat.

Rewardless of the portal you go through, you must reach the next pathway, and then activate plates to escape the trapped room. Each plate is surrounded by various hazards that could waste one of those Revives if you’re not careful. If you head through the portal on the right, you will face noxious gasses that do damage to you, but if you go through either of the other portals, you’ll be faced with floor spikes and sliding panels in the walls that will knock you off your platform. Walk over the three plates within the trapped room to unlock the portal at the end of it and escape.

Once you escape the trapped room, you’ll find yourself in a wide-open space with loads of enemies filing in from every direction. Here, you must clear the Lair’s intruders before you move any farther. This will include taking down a couple of elite enemies as well. Though, they aren’t too difficult to take on yet at this point. Once the Lair’s intruders are defeated, head through the portal into the next trapped room.

This next trapped room will function very much like the first did. However, there will be many more enemies to take on at this point as well, so watch your back while you make your way to each of the three plates and activate them. While you’re here, you can also collect Wishing Glass that you come across in pots. Activating the third of the three plates will turn on the portal, which will take you exactly to the Rally Banner before the final boss fight in your current pathway.

Place down your Rally Banner and head inside to face the boss. Depending on which portal you went through from Riven’s Lair, you must meet certain requirements to take down the boss. For the Vex boss, you must defeat the enemies that drop Arc Lasers, which will deplete the boss’s shields and make it vulnerable. For the Scorn boss, you will need to defeat Mephitic Hosts to gain the Ephemeral Virus that allows you to defeat the Plaguewielders, and the third boss requires you to defeat elite enemies before you can damage it as well.

After you defeat the boss, head back to Riven’s Lair, purchase new Dragon’s Gifts, then head back out another time. Overall, you will face four full runs, each increasing in difficulty.
