I don’t know whether to be proud that I actually finished this room, or annoyed that I took a full year to wrap up this project. Add to the annoyance that by the time this room was done, my daughter is now sleeping full time in our bed. Parenting problems right? I’m even threatening to take over her room as my own big girl bedroom in hopes that she’ll get jealous and want to go back to her own bed. So far it’s not working, but I’ve got a few more tricks up my sleeve.
Before I dive into the full room reveal, let’s take a quick peek at what my daughter’s nursery used too look like. This was actually the setup in our previous home, but I recreated the same look after we moved. I even took my beloved chandelier with us.

I started scheming up ideas for a new big girl bedroom last year, and you can read all about the design plan here. The most important factor for this space was making sure that it grows with my daughter. This mom has zero interest in redecorating a room every time my kid changes up her favorite Disney princess character. So I really wanted to stay away from any themes that would go out of style pretty quickly.
Reusing furniture and décor is one of my favorite ways to save money on any room design. I’ll give you a full breakdown of what we used versus what we had to purchase new to complete this space. But first, check out how something you might already have on hand can serve as an inspiration point for any decorating project.
We used these gorgeous blush pink pillows in my daughter’s nursery and I loved them so much they basically became the theme I designed the entire room around. It’s a soft pink color that’s even popular with adult décor these days.
Forget the fact that my daughter decided to tell me AFTER I finished her room that she hated pink and would rather have a purple room. Clearly I didn’t consult my client on this one. But I was able to get her on board pretty easily once she saw her new little girl room all complete.

Something new…
I can’t say enough amazing things about my daughter’s new toddler bed. It’s actually a full size bed, which I know is kind of big for her size, but she’ll be able to grow into it and use it through high school. And the most amazing part is that it’s a budget friendly alternative to the Pottery Barn bed I fell in love with.
If you’ve been following the blog for a while then you’ll know I have a slight obsession with rugs over carpet. I found the most gorgeous vintage looking area rug to compliment the blush floral theme and had to have it.
Apparently it so soft, that even our new kitten enjoys it.
I had a goal to try to keep my daughter’s room somewhat minimalist while still making it cozy and playful. I’m not big on toys being in my kids bedrooms. Mainly because their rooms are small. But also because I want them to be a sanctuary where they can go unwind and snuggle up with a good book before bedtime.
So I set up a little reading nook in the corner, complete with a princess canopy and soft furry rug. I’ve actually caught my daughter asleep in her “princess tent” quite a few times. I think it’s safe to say she likes it.

Something old…
We refinished my daughter’s nursery changing table into a more modern and glam piece to match her blush pink décor. You can read all about my favorite paint for this project here. I use it on a lot of my cabinet projects as well.
Did you catch the cute little gold Ombre bird lamp? That was another thrifty DIY project to help keep this room on budget.
For paint colors I went with my favorite go-tos: Simply White for the walls, and Cheating heart to make the doors really pop.
Something whimsical…
I got a lot of flack for this garland wrapped window look on Instagram. Apparently it’s not everyone’s cup of tea. But I happened to love the adorable floral look for curtain tie backs so I kept it. Sometimes you just gotta do you and ignore all the design rules.
